Maria completed her Bachelor of Commerce in Human Resources at the University of Calgary in 2012. Following that, she completed her Juris Doctorate from the Canadian and American Dual JD program at the University of Windsor in 2015. While in law school, Maria participated in several extracurricular activities including G. Mennan Moot Court competition, Zuber Moot Competition 2013, Peer Mentorship Program (2013/2014), and Volunteer for the Justice Beyond the State Conference (2013). Maria articled at a firm in Edmonton and has been a member of the Law Society of Alberta since 2017.
Prior to joining FC&Z, Maria practiced at a full-service law firm in downtown Calgary where she gained exposure to various areas of law. She has been involved in numerous court applications, mediations, JDRs, settlement meetings, EICCs, drafted briefs of law, research memos, opinion letters, separation agreements, concise letters and attending court for her clients in both Provincial Court as well as Court of King’s Bench. Maria is passionate about family law and takes a practical and compassionate approach to resolving disputes. She believes that the most effective way to assist her clients and achieving their desired results is to minimize conflict using mediation or alternative dispute resolution methods. However, Maria also understands that in certain situations, court intervention is required, and she is a strong advocate with excellent litigation experience.
Outside of work, Maria enjoys spending time with family, watching movies, and travelling to the mountains.
