Brett began with FC&Z Family Lawyers in 2017 and became a Partner in January 2020. He assists clients in both Calgary and Vancouver.
Brett has a Bachelors of Arts and Science (BASc) degree in History and Psychology from the University of Lethbridge, as well as a Juris Doctor (JD) degree from the
Schulich School of Law at Dalhousie University. Brett is an accredited Family Law Mediator under the Law Society of British Columbia and is also a trained Collaborative Family Lawyer.
Brett is a strong advocate for alternative dispute resolution (ADR) as he understands the detrimental effect litigation can have on parties going through a separation. In many matters, Brett finds that mediation, Collaborative Practice, or some other form of ADR can help clients achieve great results while maintaining a focus on communication, cooperation, and most importantly, children. However, Brett also knows that in some circumstances, court intervention is required and he is a strong and skilled advocate in court. Brett has appeared several times in the Supreme Court of British Columbia, the Provincial Court of British Columbia, the Court of King’s Bench of Alberta, and the Alberta Court of Justice.
Brett takes a holistic, rational approach to his clients’ matters to ensure that a proper strategy can be put into place from the beginning. This assists in creating tailor-made, practical, and cost-effective strategies that work for his clients to reach resolution as efficiently as possible.
